You speed through the water at an impressive rate considering only one of you is paddling. As for the flag pole defense, it seems to be working as well as expected, however, for every bird you knock into the ocean, another seems to sneak up behind and take a nibble from the boats structure. More and more of your boat seems to vanish, however, you are getting closer and closer to the shore.
Provided you dont destroy your own boat for some stupid reason, You'll touch down on the beach just as a few holes are poked in the bottom of the boat by the seagulls. The birds continue to swarm the boat, however, after you leave the vessel, they ignore you and continue to feast.
15 meters away, Hotaru stood up from her tanning spot to greet the new members of her crew.
"So much for your boat."
She frowned, watching as the eatable vessel was devoured by the ravenous flock of gulls.
"But you both passed the test. I'd tell you welcome aboard, but the ship is about a half a mile down the beach. It's a decent enough size for what I paid for it. We've got a work room, a big kitchen, and enough space for you each to have your own room. Any questions?"
Hotaru began walking through the sand towards the boat, hopefully bringing Axcel and Bastion with her. With her bag slung over her shoulder and her spear secured to her back, Hotaru couldnt help but grin. Her little trip to the dead end town in the north was a bigger success than she could have hoped for, and all she had to do to recruit these skilled 'pirates' was tan on the beach and watch them get attacked by a flock of hungry birds.
I could get used to this...
She mused, finally sure that being a pirate was a lifestyle she was comfortable settling into for a while. [/blockquote]

Our landing ashore was less than graceful. I paddled as quickly as I could, and we slammed into the sandy beach without regard for the ship’s safety. In the end, I didn’t care much about the ship itself, just completing our task. Now that we had, I didn’t really much care if the birds devoured it. I quickly scrambled out of the ship, turning to view the ship and see how Axcel was faring. The birds didn’t seem to much care for anything except their new food source, so I just scratched the back of my head with a raised brow before turning to Hotaru.
We’d passed. That much was fairly certain, anyways, but this was the final confirmation. Whether or not joining this crew was the right decision, I couldn’t be certain, but I’d decided that it was well worth whatever risk to get out of this place. To start up a new life. Still, I couldn’t help but find myself curious as to Hotaru’s ship.
Didn’t you steal it? I thought as I retrieved my boots and began to set my feet into them. But I decided I’d see for myself, and if I really wanted to, I could probably improve its design if I found it lacking. At least a little. What struck me as more interesting, however, was that she mentioned there was enough space for everyone to have their own room. That seemed much larger than normal. I’d get my answers when I reached the ship, though.
“Mmh, none,” I responded, casting my gaze to the distance, in the direction of the ship. Hotaru was already off, presumably toward the boat, and I followed suit.

Although it lost the form it had when it originally sailed, the ship had managed to arrive at the cove in one piece. As they landed onto the shore, Axcel immediately hopped off and planted the flag into the white sand before turning back to take a quick look at the sea. A number of white, unconscious seagulls made a path from the rocky island they had came from to the cove. The boy grinned to himself, feeling a more proud than he should be of the fact that he beat a bunch of birds senseless.
Axcel ripped a small chunk of the boat and started chewing on it whenever Hotaru began to speak. It actually tasted pretty damn good—no wonder those birds were so damn relentless. Although he already knew that Bastion and himself had successfully completed the task given to them, it was still good to hear it. Axcel was officially part of a crew—a pirate crew at that! He was genuinely happy, having always intended on being a pirate and live a life of adventure.
“Yeah, I have a question! What’s for dinner?!” Axcel said as his stomach made a distinct rumbling noise, despite having eaten a part of the ship and a batch of strawberries beforehand. It wasn’t until a few moments after he posed the question did he remember that he was brought onto the crew as the cook.
“Oh. . .right.”
