there wasn't any particular reason as to why she was so happy, really, but she was. maybe it was because of how nice the weather was or maybe it was because she wasn't going to be cooped up in her house for the day, reading and studying. as much as she loved reading, some days she just wanted to go out and be active but knowing her she'd eventually settle down under some tree and read.
that's just the way she was.
the other citizens of ohara moved steadily out of her way, some sending her wary glances here and there and those new to the island all had the same thought:
"what is with that girl?"
but siria blodwen didn't care not did she notice what others thought of her. she was one-of-a-kind, according to the scholars, and she kinda, sorta basked in that knowledge. who wanted to be like everyone else, anyway? that was bo~ring and so last century.
she came to a slow stop under a tree that was perfect for reading and sat with a quiet thump before falling onto her back and smiling up at the leaves of the tree.
"ah~ what a perfect day!" |

What a Strange man...so pale, how could one live like that? I wonder where he is from
Garen was stuck in thought. He was sad that he was broken out of the trance of a gripping tale. Now he will have to wait to find out what happened to the Giant, would he succesfully wrestle that Sea King? Well probably I mean why else would he be in the book in the first place, however these kind of thoughts take away the fun of the books.
It is still a nice day out. Maybe he should explore the town a bit, he didn't get the chance earlier, as soon as he saw grass and trees he ran off. Who knows, this town could hold amazing secrets. Maybe they have a delicacy or maybe some sort of attraction. He walked about the road heading into town.
Strange to be able to walk so freely without worrying about the necessities. He didn't have to cover his head, or carry water. He also overheard people mentioning that it was warm out today, but he felt kind of cool. How long would it take for him to adjust to this?
He noticed a young lady sitting under a tree reading. He headed over to her, before he got closer she already cleared the air, with a sweet voice she "ah~ what a perfect day!". With a smile Garen replied "I agree." he paused for a moment then continued "I am sorry to intrude but I am not from around here, where can I try some local cuisine?"

siri blinked, tilting her head to the side so that she could see the owner of the voice and it only caused her to blink more. she had never seen anyone that pale before and even before the man's next words left his lips, she was sitting up and asking questions.
"you're so pale! where are you from, mister?" she asked, her voice dripping with curiosity and her hands digging through her bag for her journal and pen. siri was one to write down and record any answers or stories she heard from others, her curiosity and scholarness causing her to be a bit ocd about it.
it only took a few more seconds for the stranger's question to register in her mind before she answered, smiling as she did so. "ah, ohara doesn't really have any delicacies foodwise. we're known more for out books and library here. but there's a small cafe about a five minute's walk from here that serves the best chocolate cake in all of west blue." |

The woman looked up at her curiously, the face took him aback and his eyes shifted. He could feel her eyes scanning him. As if he was some sort of creature on exhibit, but he understood her reasons, he does the same thing at least three times a day. Then suddenly she asked "you're so pale! where are you from, mister?" while digging through her bag for a pen and paper. Garen gasped and looked at his hands and turn them from back to front. He noticed that his skin was lighter than usual, that was strange.
Garen nervously said "I..I don't know maybe I am little sick from the change of weather or not eating." Garen looked up from his hands and tried to play off the shock "I am from Alabasta, an island quite far from here" he looked around to absorb the new information.
"Hmm...books?" he said a little sad, he was hoping to try some exotic food, but then he peaked "Wait...a library?...Do you have stories of noble warriors or the tales of adventurers?" he asked excitedly "I beg you miss reporter to please show me"

"you're from alabasta? oh, lucky! i've always wanted to go there! is it as hot as they say?"
siri was humming with excitement to the point where she had to stand and dance back and forth, from one foot to the other in order to try and rid herself of some of the excitement. no one from alabasta or anywhere in the grand line really had visited ohara in a long time and so some of the information was outdated.
"reporter? i'm not a reporter! i'm a scholar... or a scholar-in-training... apprentice scholar...? yeah, that, but i do know the library like the back of my hand and there's an entire section full of books about noble warriors and adventurers. its actually one of my favorite places."
she took a few steps closer and smiled up at the man. "if you tell me about alabasta, i'll show you where those books are~" |

"you're from alabasta? oh, lucky! i've always wanted to go there! is it as hot as they say?" she asked excitedly. Garen was shocked by her urge to jump up and dance. She seems like a fireball of energy, something Garen wasn't used to. Most people in his village were blue collars and didn't have the time or energy for this type of reaction. She acts like a child but Garen found it cute.
"I don't know...how hot do they say it gets? It is certainly hotter than here. We usually have to cover our heads and grass is a rarity to us." he said picking up up a blade of it from the ground.
As he stood back he saw her coming a few steps closer with a smile, and sweetly proposed "if you tell me about alabasta, i'll show you where those books are~". Overcome by the woman's excitement he accepted.
"I am eager to see this town, and if there was anything I could do to help you it would be my pleasure. I am Garen Agymah" he said with a quick bow

"it never gets that hot here so i've always wanted to experience an alabastian summer."
"and if you've lived around grass your entire life it gets pretty boring. i bet its like that for you too, huh? but with sand instead?" siri asked, tilting her head to one side and staring up at the man curiously.
"i am eager to see this town and if there was anything i could do to help you it would be my pleasure. i am garen agymah."
"oh~ thank you!" siri exclaimed, reaching for the man's - garen's - hands to give them an excited shake. after garen bowed of course, otherwise it would just be awkward.
"and i know some of the best places, too, since i always have to go collect weird objects for my father. i'm siria blodwen, by the way, but everyone just calls me siri. its such a pleasure to meet you, garen!"
with that said, she turned and picked up her bag, slinging it on her shoulder, before smiling up at him once again. "and if you could just follow me. we'll be going to the library first on this tour~" |

She grabbed his hand frantically shook it...Garen was kind of in a daze"Siri-" he mouthed the words slowly. He had never been on a first name basis with a woman except for his mother. Even with this girls his had age he always used to their formal name or last name. It was just how he was raised. Not to mention that it was a nickname no less
"-san" he said and darted his eyes. He smiled and scratched his head. He watched the girl sling her bag on and then make another smile. It wasn't until now that he noticed how tall he was compared to her, almost by a full foot.
"And if you could just follow me. we'll be going to the library first on this tour~"
"T-Thank you" his voiced cracked. Garen covered his mouth, and tried to move on.

"no, no. its not siri-san, its just siri," she stressed. "siri-san makes me sound like some old lady and i'm eighteen! not even close to being old! so just call me siri, kay?"
with that she grab garen's free hand and attempted to pull him along after her, excited to show him ohara and all its quiet wonders.
"and its no problem at all," she said over her shoulder, completely missing how garen's voice cracked. "i was going to head to the library later, anyway, but going early works just as well~"
she pulled her bag further up her shoulder from where it was slipping, sending the townspeople a bright smile when she passed them. she ignored their wary looks, completely used to them by now and continued to walk, letting go of garen's hand and turning so that she was facing him and now walking backwards.
"so, garen, what brings you to ohara in the first place?" she asked, voice thick with curiosity. she really wanted to know because, despite the library having almost every book in existence, ohara didn't get many visitors.
it was a "what you see is what you get" kind of place, really. |

Garen's face flushed and then turned red as soon Siri grabbed his hand. Father I'm not thinking impure thoughts...I'm not impure he had to keep reminding himself. His parents were raised him to not go chasing woman around in the city, even when he would talk to the girls in his town and refrained from touching them, they were fragile and he did not what to damage them...not that he could damage her, something about Siri just made her seem like she could avoid any harm, and he to remind himself that not everyone followed the same rules he had to. He was going to have to adjust to things like this, but it was too fast, nicknames and then hand holding? Was she infatuated?
Her walking backwards wasn't uncommon but it was dangerous, especially when a person riding in a bike was coming. A crowd just passed and the bicyclist didn't notice her. Garen gasped and was about to reach out to her but the bicyclist was able to steer clear of her and pedal right into a trash can. There was a crash, loud metallic noise and then the feet dangling out of the bucket. "Er...uhhh..." he was pulled back into the conversation and couldn't think of a reason to explain why he was here specifically. He dug into his bag and pulled out his book. The cover was worn out but it said 'Heroes of Our Past'. It was a thick paperback that was detailed the legends of various heroes, they listed heroes from different islands and races including Fishmen and Giants.
He gave her the book and then a couple seconds later he took it from her and flipped to the page that showed a picture of on a knight. He had a rocky face that showed responsibility and maturity. He his sword in his sheath and his shield in his hand. Garen pointed at it. "That it was I left my home, being here is just a detour...no offense" he finished with a nervous laugh.

"people should really watch where they're going," she said , turning back to garen. "someone could get hurt, ya know?"
of course, she had no idea that she was the one who had caused the accident. she started to once again walk backwards when garen handed her the book and she quickly flipped through it, before handing it back to him and listening to him answer her question.
"no offense taken~" she said. "ohara is often a detour for people, whether they be pirate, marine, bounty hunter, or anything else! and there's always the coolest stories from them too, so it isn't that bad that ohara's just a detour." |

Garen took the book back when Siri offered it and then sighed after her response. He looked in the book and flipped through it. "I understand, I feel like my island is the same. I love my home, and my people, but I just feel like living there is getting me nowhere. I vowed to become an honorable warrior, to make history and be written in a book like this...but..."
Garen paused and put the book in his bag "all I have done is stop petty thieves . This sword can do more." Garen unsheathed his sword. It was obvious that it wasn't a normal sword, it had a large round shield attached to it guarding his hand "I made it myself, my father and I were smiths" he appreciated it a little more before putting it away on his side.
"When I read this book, it just makes me feel like there is more to the world...I want to be like these guys and fight..." GAren whipped out the book and picked a random page "...uhh a three headed saber toothed lion...well uhh..You get what I mean"

"yes, i get what you mean," she said after he trailed off. "and that's quite the dream you have there and the sword as well, of course. and i hope that you never give up on it because i've read enough history books to know how hard making history is."
siri was silent for a moment before she spoke again, but a bit more softer than she had before and a note of fondness in her voice. "i don't really have a dream of my own but my father... he wants to become a world-renowned inventor; an inventor of things that would make living in this world easier and i support him in that, no matter how foolish it seems to people. so, i'll support you in your dream too, if you'd like. there's more than enough room for me to." |

Her words echoed in his head for a moment. Its strange that it gripped him, but he needed to hear someone out there say it. "Thank You Siri, I needed someone to tell me that. Not everyone is so accepting. I used to get laughed at by my friends. My parents tried their hardest to stop me. I used to sneak out and try to stop bad guys at night, like a street vigilante. My father found out and begged me to stop and said it was a silly fantasy." Garen's voice got a little shaky but heavy
He took a few seconds to breath. "It's not though" he said calmly. Garen laughed a little when he realized his exposition "I'm sorry, I talk to much" he tried to hide his embarrassment. Heroes don't show such weaknesses.
Come to think of it, he never even said bye to his family, he knew they would stop him if he did. He knew if he didn't leave when he did, he never make his dream come true. But he didn't want to break down in front of this girl.
