[style=width: 350px; font-family: times; letter-spacing: -2px; font-size: 18px;]JUST STOP FOR A MOMENT AND SMILE[/style][style=width: 350px; font-family: arial; line-height: 11px; text-align: justify; font-size: 10px; border-top: #C9C9C9 10px solid; padding: 5px; border-left: #C9C9C9 10px solid;] Ah, she was correct again. It felt good to have a rather hastily thrown together answer, even if it was backed by some thought, proven correct. But what was a real relief was that Hotaru had stopped attacking, which probably meant that the test was either finished, or something big or final was happening. Her feeling was proven right as she asked an extremely long riddle. This one was a process of elimination problem that would take a few minutes to figure out, even then, without anything to inscribe her ideas, she could easily still be wrong. As she thought to herself and worked through each fact forward and backward, it was basically silent. The fountain gurgled and her hassled breaths, still coming in pretty heavy, were the only thing other than her pounding heart she could hear. But slowly, those things faded as well as the burning sensation she felt in her muscles. She hated to let them shut down now, as if she was wrong, Hotaru would probably resume the attack. After a few minutes, when she figured the best answer she could give at the moment was forefront in her mind, Rin answered, making sure to take a stance that she could defend herself in. "The Archaeologist... is what I'm going with." She hoped that this would just be right already and this game would end. Fighting for your life was one thing, but Rin hated being guided around like a puppet. She was a free Shandian, living among humans. The most free of all people. But this island was dull, and she needed a ship to escape it. There was a price to pay for that escape, and hopefully it was almost paid. Tsh
Hotaru scoffed. Lifting the spear back into an attacking position, she slowly walked towards Rin, a steely glare fixated on the winged navigator. Without saying a word, she pointed the blade of the weapon at the girls head. Cocking her head to the side, she stared for a moment longer before the blade quickly and slightly tilted its slant and fired another blast of wind, just over Rin's left shoulder, directly next to her head.
"I guess you pass."
Hotaru said blankly, as if if was a small feat to make it through one of her tests. Pulling the spear back, she reduced it to it's smaller form and looped it back into the holster on the back of her shorts.
"I wonder how your friend is doing. I cant imagine Triton is going easy on him...
She trailed off, making her way to the fountain in the middle and taking a seat on the edge.
"So. Got any questions. I dont think I even got your name."
Hotaru wasn't really good with small talk, but it was inevitable that she would get to know the members of her crew if they were going to be traveling together. Drumming her fingers against the concrete edge, her eyes roamed around the town square as she waited for any kind of reaction from her new Navigator. [/blockquote]

From the reaction of the woman, the riddle had been answered correctly. A nice feeling of accomplishment washed away the earlier aggravation from being played with. Her final reaction to Rin completing the test, even if she missed a couple of riddles mid-fight, was a bit annoying. She acted like Rin had missed the riddle and fired another air blast near her head. It, however, was never aimed at her, so dodging wasn't needed. At least now she could get off of the boring, cold rock she had been stuck on for a little while now. Her counterpart sat on the edge of the fountain as Rin went ahead and grabbed her discarded cloak, covering her shoulders and wings again behind its beige cloth. Also during this time, Hotaru off-handily mentioned the test Cain was probably going through at the same time, though the tanned woman couldn't imagine their battle being as cerebral at the one she had just finished herself. Not only that, it didn't really matter to her how it was going. Rin sat on the same edge a little away from Hotaru and took some of the cold water, rubbing it on her exposed skin to wash away a bit of the sweat that had exited her body as Hotaru inquired about anything Rin wanted to say. "Yea. You wouldn't happen to have a bath on that ship would you?" she said playfully, laughing a bit of her tension away. "And you're right. My 'friend' doesn't know it either. Rin is my name." she finished, still relaxing as the cool water slowed her body functions back to normal levels. "Well Rin.
Hotaru said cheerfully.
"It's not exactly a spa, but we've got warm running water and a tub."
Though she had barely spent more than a few days aboard the boat herself, Hotaru had taken it upon herself to explore the vessel and discover just what they had stolen. For it's size, the boat was packed with small rooms which each seemed to serve a purpose. All that was left to do was find people to fill the space.
"As the navigator, you should know that our ship is equipped with a fully enclosed crows nest on top of the mast. Theres a desk, some empty charts, compasses, telescopes, pens and stuff like that up there. I dont have much use for it, but I'm sure you'll find it to be more than accommodating."
Waiting for Rin to digest the information, Hotaru thought of what to ask next. It had just dawned on the captain that, besides Rin's name, her profession, her fighting style, and the fact that she had wings, she knew very little about her. Truthfully, Hotaru wanted to ask about the wings, which, at this point, was the most interesting thing about her to the red head. As a black market player, she had heard lots of stories about the islands in the sky, however, it was obvious that the navigator was trying to hide her heritage, so she wouldn't press the obviously sensitive topic.
"So. Got any other hidden talents?"
Hotaru inquired, beginning to walk towards the direction of the beach where their ship was moored. It was only a short walk, and she wasn't going to wait around for Triton to finish his test of the swordsman. [/blockquote]

[style=width: 350px; font-family: times; letter-spacing: -2px; font-size: 18px;]JUST STOP FOR A MOMENT AND SMILE[/style][style=width: 350px; font-family: arial; line-height: 11px; text-align: justify; font-size: 10px; border-top: #C9C9C9 10px solid; padding: 5px; border-left: #C9C9C9 10px solid;] The change in her counterpart was well received. A hard ass captain that didn't let herself relax at any time would be a pain to deal with. But the female didn't offer her name straight off as Rin had. Either she forgot, or was deliberately keeping it from her. But if the woman was going to accept Rin as her navigator, then she had at least some level of trust in her. So it must have been that she had just forgotten. It had to be. So when both women stood up and started off in the direction of the ship, the question slipped in between what Hotaru was saying about the ship. "Um. I might have missed it before, but I still don't know your name either. I don't know if you just want to go by Captain or what." she said, smiling a little. Preferably she would see the humor in neither of them knowing each other's name while pitted in combat and tossing riddles and answers at each other. "And I'm sure it will be everything I could need and more." She noted while continuing on with Hotaru. Though she was interested in the ship and what Hotaru was saying, she did wonder how Cain was doing in his battle. Not so much that she cared about the result, but the big loud guy and his skills posed a question of curiosity in the unknown more than anything. When she spoke again, the red haired lady drew Rin's attention again. She asked if Rin had any other special skills. This really drew a smile out of Rin. She did have a special skill, but it was rather ambiguous at the moment. "I might..." she said playfully, "But I don't suppose it is adequately tested at this point." She was kidding around and being serious at the same time. Her ability wasn't tested against any real combative situations and all that she knew was absolutely true was the rumor about the curse. Water really did sap the strength of her if she entered too much of it. That would prove to be a hassle, and she would need to tell her crew eventually in case she fell off the ship. "The name's Hotaru Satsuma. I guess i'm captain of the crew. That big guy from back at the bar is Triton. I imagine that anchor of his is giving blondie quite the run for his money."
The two continued to walk towards the ship, leaving the village behind in no time. Making their way though the forest to the beach, Rin had said that she may have had more power than she let on, however it hadn't been 'tested' yet.
A devil fruit?
Hotaru pondered. It was certainly possible that she had eaten a cursed fruit, however, short of Rin telling her or Hotaru pushing her into the ocean, there wasn't a lot that she could do to coax the information from the navigator.
After about 20 minutes, Hotaru and Rin arrived on the beach where the ship sat waiting for them. It had been 'parked' in an abandoned sandy cove and it seemed that no one had been there since the boat was docked.
"Well. Here we are."
The captain stated matter-of-factly.
"You're welcome to stay aboard the boat after you check it out. You'll have your own room and full access to most of the areas on board, including the crows nest. Otherwise i'm sure there some other....charming villages around here. I'll be taking another good look around this area to see if I can't rustle up a few more crew members. I'm planning on leaving here in about a week, so dont run off too far that we leave you behind. Welcome aboard, i guess."
And with introductions out of the way, Hotaru climbed back onto the boat for a short rest. She didnt need to go out to search right away, and today had been much more productive than expected. [/blockquote]

[style=width: 350px; font-family: times; letter-spacing: -2px; font-size: 18px;]JUST STOP FOR A MOMENT AND SMILE[/style][style=width: 350px; font-family: arial; line-height: 11px; text-align: justify; font-size: 10px; border-top: #C9C9C9 10px solid; padding: 5px; border-left: #C9C9C9 10px solid;] She didn't look confused by the question and gave her name immediately. It looked as though that worry was for nothing. Hotaru was the name, and Rin played around with it in her head. A fine name. And the annoying man was Triton. The idea to avoid him most of the time came to her head and didn't really sound to bad. Maybe she would give him a chance at some point, but maybe he would be a bit less grating in the future. Fun was one thing, yelling for no reason, a totally different thing. The walk was a bit longer than expected, but the ship made up for it. A little feeling of freedom spread across her body. It was a beautiful ship. Not that it was anything to be amazed over, but she could sail, be called home, and finally Rin had taken her first steps to true freedom. She could do anything she wanted, go anywhere on the seas. If her captain wanted, they could even navigate the sky seas. It would be good to see her tribe again at some point, but she didn't want to be chained to them again. When she stepped on the deck, every sight burned into her mind. A navigator had to be at home on any ship they coordinated. He or she had to know every nook and cranny, feel every disturbance. The ship needed to be part of her when she sailed the seas. Her smile broke open again. This would really be her home. Hotaru finished speaking, telling her new navigator that she had access to anywhere she wanted. First things first, Rin would stake out her room nearest the bath, then she would enter that same bath and clean herself and prune her wings a bit. Today had been a long day after all. The week couldn't pass by fast enough. Lyneel Kingdom was a bore.
